History:
The plaster of this model was created around 1909 after the artist's journey at Villa Abd-el-Tif in Algiers. Seven unnumbered bronze proofs were made with Valsuani lost wax from 1938 onwards, as commissioned to the artist (the last proof was cast around 1953). Two artist's proofs numbered 1/2 and 2/2 were then made with lost wax by the Godard foundryman. 

Provenance:
Purchased from the artist by the current owner's father.
